South­ern­ers win in­door bowls

South Otago won the na­tional Women’s In­sti­tutes in­door bowls tro­phy at Onepoto Park re­cently.

The tour­na­ment was con­tested by eight re­gional win­ners of Women’s In­sti­tutes com­pe­ti­tions. South Otago beat North Taranaki, with Nel­son fin­ish­ing third.

It was the third suc­ces­sive year the South Welling­ton Women’s In­sti­tute has hosted the fi­nal.

The two-day event fin­ished on Fe­bru­ary 16.

Af­ter­wards Kay Hart, the na­tional pres­i­dent of New Zealand Women’s In­sti­tutes, pre­sented a $20,000 cheque to Cour­tanay Gray, of Kid­ney Kids.

Women’s In­sti­tutes has now raised $100,000 for Kid­ney Kids – chil­dren suf­fer­ing from kid­ney dis­or­ders.

The lat­est do­na­tion will en­able the chil­dren to at­tend camps.
