Southerners win indoor bowls
South Otago won the national Women’s Institutes indoor bowls trophy at Onepoto Park recently.
The tournament was contested by eight regional winners of Women’s Institutes competitions. South Otago beat North Taranaki, with Nelson finishing third.
It was the third successive year the South Wellington Women’s Institute has hosted the final.
The two-day event finished on February 16.
Afterwards Kay Hart, the national president of New Zealand Women’s Institutes, presented a $20,000 cheque to Courtanay Gray, of Kidney Kids.
Women’s Institutes has now raised $100,000 for Kidney Kids – children suffering from kidney disorders.
The latest donation will enable the children to attend camps.
