Climbers scale new heights
Jason Rees showed he had a head for heights when he became the Wellington tree climbing champion at Tawa on Saturday.
Willowbank Park hosted the first New Zealand arboricultural association and Husqvarna Wellington tree climbing competition.
There were five events to test competitors’ ability to safely enter and manoeuvre in a tree, simulating the daily work of professional arborists.
Two events involved speed climbing – one up a 15-metre rope and the other scaling trees more than 25 metres high.
