Young players up for NZ squad

Kapi-Mana News - - SPORT -

Porirua netballers Mila Reuelu-Buchanan and Colleen Faleafaga will get the chance to make the New Zealand Secondary Schools team next month.

The 24 best school-aged netballers will meet for a trial at Epsom Girls Grammar in Auckland. The team contestS a trans- Tasman under- 19 tournament in May.

Netball New Zealand’s under- 19 co- coach Julie Seymour said the squad would have their first exposure to a highperformance environment.

‘‘Some of them have been in the secondary schools team before, but for a lot of the players, the three-day camp is the first step on the pathway to a potential career playing netball,’’ she said.

‘‘The key for them is to come focused and ready to fight for their spot in the team.’’

Faleafaga (St Mary’s College) and Reuelu-Buchanan (Wellington East) have both trialled for New Zealand Secondary Schools before.

Rotorua will host the tournament, with Australia sending two teams. The event will include an under19 Aotearoa Maori side.
