Blues duo of­fer tra­di­tional treat

Vet­eran blues man Dave Mur­phy and long-time mu­si­cian friend Dou­gal Spier are com­ing to Paekakariki.

They are the head­lin­ing Red Dog Acous­tic Duo at the Vin­tage Blues Ses­sions in St Peter’s Vil­lage Hall on March 28.

They will be sup­ported by Blake­wa­ter Blues, con­sist­ing of lo­cal mu­si­cians Gor­don Cham­ley ( har­mon­ica and vo­cals), Mur­ray Kilpatrick ( fin­ger- style gui­tar and vo­cals) and Sue Rose (vo­cals).

Blake­wa­ter Blues play vin­tage acous­tic blues and orig­i­nal com­po­si­tions in sim­i­lar tra­di­tional style.

Mur­phy has a long his­tory in blues mu­sic. In the 1980s he trav­elled through the United States meet­ing mu­si­cians and learn­ing blues tunes from the orig­i­nals like Eu­gene Pow­ell, bet­ter known as Sonny Boy Nel­son.
