An­drew Wellum asked a lot of ques­tions in his let­ter ‘‘Why break the road rules?’’ (March 3).

One an­swer to ex­plain the cut­ting of cor­ners and cross­ing the cen­tre line is that a lot of driv­ers do not have con­fi­dence in their driv­ing to take a cor­ner in their lane, so cut­ting the cor­ner al­lows a safety mar­gin.

An­other is that they don’t ac­tu­ally know where the cor­ners of their car are on the road
