Submitters get chance to speak
The Local Government Commission hearings on the draft proposal for reorganisation of councils in the Wellington region come to Porirua on Thursday.
The hearings will start at 9am and be held in the Helen Smith Community Room in Pataka, Norrie St.
They are for people who requested to speak to their submission on the draft proposal.
Members of the public can attend as observers.
It is not a public forum for discussion. The hearings are before the three commissioners: Basil Morrison (chairman), Anne Carter and Janie Annear.
They are run along the lines of a commission of inquiry. The commissioners may question submitters if they need elaboration on some points. However, one submitter cannot cross- examine commissioners or another submitter.
About 500 people around Wellington region asked to be heard and 9400 submissions were received.
