Praise for Anita Baker

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

I noted your councillor ratings story (March 17).

I probably speak for many people who live in one part of Porirua City and don’t get exposed to the whole council.

As a Whitby resident, the only councillor on the ground in my suburb consistently is Anita

Baker. She works in the village and is always available in work hours to see residents or businesses about their concerns or questions about council business.

While mostly it’s not flashy, media-worthy stuff she sorts out, I know I speak for many Whitby people to say we value her proactive problem solving.

When it comes to getting paths fixed, support for community groups or putting us in touch with the right person to speak to, Anita is putting in the hard work.

It’s hard to recognise the above positives in your survey, but I’m guessing that she and other community-based councillors like Litea Ah Hoi often go unrecognised for the hard yards they put in.
