Speed cam­era a money-maker

Janette Piper makes a spir­ited de­fence of the pres­ence of a speed cam­era in Whit­ford Brown Ave (March 17).

In the course of her let­ter she points out that since the speed limit along the road was re­duced to 50kmh in 2008, the num­ber of ac­ci­dents has de­clined dras­ti­cally.

If that is the case, then what was the press­ing need to have a speed cam­era in­stalled there last year? Merely re­duc­ing the speed limit had ap­par­ently al­ready done the trick.

I agree with Kapi-Mana News and with let­ter-writ­ers who have claimed the speed cam­era is no more than rev­enue gath­er­ing. That seems un­de­ni­able in this case.
