Battle Hill forest walk

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

The history and future of Battle Hill Farm Forest Park, and Transmission Gully, will be covered in an entertaining walk this Saturday.

Hosted by the regional council, the free walk with a park ranger will take place from 9am until noon.

The area is of significance. The culmination of the conflict between the Crown and Ngati Toa’s Te Rangihaeata took place at the siege of Battle Hill in 1846, but the farm settlement also offers a more lyrical history, housing poet Sam Hunt.

The park is also looking to the future, with Transmission Gully motorway going through it.

Good fitness is essential and there will be spot prizes. Meet at the main entrance to Battle Hill Farm Forest Park off Paekakariki Hill Rd.

Book by calling 830 4041 or email bookings@gw.govt.nz – cancellations will be on The Breeze radio station.
