Countdown in resource hearing
The proposed $17 million Aotea Countdown is moving through the resource consent process, but there is no date yet for when it might be built.
A spokeswoman for Countdown owners Progressive Enterprises said the resource consent application for the 3000 square metre supermarket, on the site of the Aotea camp ground at the top of Whitford Brown Ave, was continuing.
A private plan change through the council was needed, to change the land from suburban to commercial.
‘‘Following on from the public hearings late last year, we have made some adjustments to the original proposed design. They reflect the views they expressed.
‘‘We’re working through these changes with the council,’’ she said.
Objectors to the supermarket cited lighting, traffic, noise and proximity of other supermarkets in their submissions.
