MPs salvage NZ cricket pride

Kapi-Mana News - - SPORT -

We lost the big one, but at least our MPs gave their Aussie counterparts a walloping on the cricket pitch.

New Zealand MPs clashed with Australian senators and MPs in netball, football and cricket on March 28.

The parliamentarians, led by former Silver Fern Louisa Wall, won the netball 11-9.

The Australians fought back to win the football 4-3.

It all came down to the cricket, which used backyard rules – 12 overs a side with everyone getting a bat, negative 5 runs for a wicket, and everyone required to bowl.

‘‘We won the cricket handsomely,’’ said Mana MP and New Zealand cocaption Kris Faafoi, ‘‘but someone forgot the scorebook so no official record exists.

‘‘The Australians did sledge, the worst being, ‘You run like a Green’.’’
