Cap­i­tal & Coast Dis­trict Health Board has called for ap­pli­ca­tions from health ser­vice users to join a new 10-mem­ber ad­vi­sory coun­cil.

VOICE for Con­sumers – Visibility, Own­er­ship, In­volve­ment, Com­mu­ni­ca­tion and En­gage­ment – will meet ev­ery two months to work with the board as a con­sumer coun­cil on health ser­vices in hos­pi­tal and the com­mu­nity, aim­ing to give health ser­vices users an ac­tive role in their devel­op­ment.

In­terim board chief ex­ec­u­tive Deb­bie Chin said the coun­cil’s aim would be to im­prove the qual­ity, safety, and ex­pe­ri­ence of care pro­vided by the board to al­most 900,000 peo­ple be­tween the North and South is­lands.

‘‘We want to know how we can im­prove the health ser­vices – and to do this we need to get the peo­ple who use them around the ta­ble with us,’’ she said. A di­verse range of mem­bers was needed to rep­re­sent the di­verse needs of the com­mu­ni­ties, she said.
