Ad­ven­tur­ous duathlon popular

More than 200 chil­dren took to the sports field for the bi-an­nual Adventure School duathlon.

Chil­dren as young as 5 took part in the fundrais­ing run and cy­cle race held on March 20.

The event, or­gan­ised by the Par­ent Teach­ers Net­work In­cor­po­rated was some pupils’ first taste of a multi-dis­ci­pline sport.

All com­peti­tors re­ceived a medal and cer­tifi­cate, which were awarded by the as­sis­tant prin­ci­pal Diane Pep­perell and ris­ing triath­lete Emelie Clarke.

Clarke, 16, a for­mer Adventure School pupil, now com­petes in­ter­na­tion­ally.

All pupils were spon­sored and pro­ceeds will go to­wards school ini­tia­tives such as sports uni­forms.

Bless­ing Mataitoa- Patu, 8, raised $403 through spon­sor­ship, and over­all the chil­dren raised $5000. Bless­ing re­ceived a new bike for rais­ing the most.
