Adventurous duathlon popular
More than 200 children took to the sports field for the bi-annual Adventure School duathlon.
Children as young as 5 took part in the fundraising run and cycle race held on March 20.
The event, organised by the Parent Teachers Network Incorporated was some pupils’ first taste of a multi-discipline sport.
All competitors received a medal and certificate, which were awarded by the assistant principal Diane Pepperell and rising triathlete Emelie Clarke.
Clarke, 16, a former Adventure School pupil, now competes internationally.
All pupils were sponsored and proceeds will go towards school initiatives such as sports uniforms.
Blessing Mataitoa- Patu, 8, raised $403 through sponsorship, and overall the children raised $5000. Blessing received a new bike for raising the most.
Adventure School pupil Kate Pollard, 7, centre in red, races to get ahead of her classmates.
