Raising funds for Vanuatu
Some senior pupils from Plimmerton School wanted to help raise funds for Vanuatu in the aftermath of Cyclone Pam, so they came up with the idea of a walkathon on March 27.
Children sought sponsorship and then gave up 30 minutes of their lunchtime to walk around the school field. Some raced around to earn more funds.
On April 2, the $4000 raised was presented at the school assembly to Hurricanes rugby players Steve Symonds and Motu Matu’u, who toured Vanuatu last year in a campaign to raise awareness of domestic abuse.
They told the children that a lot of the places they visited had been destroyed.
The Hurricanes have started their own fundraising effort and said Plimmerton School’s donation was a huge kick start towards their goal of $50,000.
