More success for Judgeford golfers
When Judgeford were promoted to the top level of Wellington men’s interclub golf, no- one thought of them as likely Duncan Cup play-off contenders.
After all, on the two previous occasions Judgeford has been in the top division they have lost every game and been relegated immediately.
However, after the second- last round of pool play this season, Judgeford have inched closer to realising their dream. In their last match, they outplayed Masterton 10.5-4.5.
They won the morning foursomes 4-1. Mike Payne and Craig Wilkins played outstanding golf to secure a comprehensive 8 and 7 win.
In the afternoon singles, Judgeford grabbed a further 6.5 points with excellent victories for Dane Crawford (5 and 4), Dudley Asi (5 and 4) and Alistair Crump (7 and 5).
To qualify for play-offs, Judgeford need to be in the top four after the round robin. At present they lie fifth, just behind Paraparaumu.
In the final round, on May 10, Judgeford meet table-trailing Manor Park.
Points: Royal Wellington 52.5, 1; Miramar 51.5, 2; Shandon 40.5, 3; Paraparaumu 35, 4; Judgeford 33, 5; Masterton 29, 6; Manor Park 28.5, 7.
