More suc­cess for Judge­ford golfers

When Judge­ford were pro­moted to the top level of Welling­ton men’s in­ter­club golf, no- one thought of them as likely Dun­can Cup play-off con­tenders.

Af­ter all, on the two pre­vi­ous oc­ca­sions Judge­ford has been in the top di­vi­sion they have lost ev­ery game and been rel­e­gated im­me­di­ately.

How­ever, af­ter the sec­ond- last round of pool play this sea­son, Judge­ford have inched closer to re­al­is­ing their dream. In their last match, they out­played Master­ton 10.5-4.5.

They won the morn­ing four­somes 4-1. Mike Payne and Craig Wilkins played out­stand­ing golf to se­cure a com­pre­hen­sive 8 and 7 win.

In the af­ter­noon sin­gles, Judge­ford grabbed a fur­ther 6.5 points with ex­cel­lent vic­to­ries for Dane Craw­ford (5 and 4), Dud­ley Asi (5 and 4) and Alis­tair Crump (7 and 5).

To qual­ify for play-offs, Judge­ford need to be in the top four af­ter the round robin. At present they lie fifth, just be­hind Para­pa­raumu.

In the fi­nal round, on May 10, Judge­ford meet ta­ble-trail­ing Manor Park.
