More than 880 competitors took part in this year’s Porirua Grand Traverse on April 2. Event manager Michael Jacques said the number of entrants virtually matched last year’s record.

Wellington’s Warwick Smith, an independent entry, won the fun run/ walk; Mana Kayak Racing 1 won the paddle race; Mansour Youssef, from Johnsonville, won the mountainbiking race; Wellington’s Ben Clendon won the mountain run section; Callum Kennedy, from, Wellington, won the duathlon; Johnsonville’s Lizzy Bunckenburg won the women’s multisport division, and Derek Cox, from Carterton, won the men’s multisport division.
The Titahi Bay Beach event was popular with junior competitors.
