More than 880 com­peti­tors took part in this year’s Porirua Grand Tra­verse on April 2. Event manager Michael Jac­ques said the num­ber of en­trants vir­tu­ally matched last year’s record.

‘‘It was good, ac­tu­ally. It’s just great to see it con­tinue,’’ Jac­ques said.

Welling­ton’s War­wick Smith, an in­de­pen­dent en­try, won the fun run/ walk; Mana Kayak Rac­ing 1 won the pad­dle race; Man­sour Youssef, from John­sonville, won the moun­tain­bik­ing race; Welling­ton’s Ben Clen­don won the moun­tain run sec­tion; Cal­lum Kennedy, from, Welling­ton, won the duathlon; John­sonville’s Lizzy Bunck­en­burg won the women’s mul­ti­sport di­vi­sion, and Derek Cox, from Carter­ton, won the men’s mul­ti­sport di­vi­sion.
