School pays tribute
The Last Post rang out from Ngati Toa School last Tuesday as white crosses to symbolise men who died at Gallipoli were unveiled.
In attendance were representatives of the New Zealand Army, RSA and Education Minister Hekia Parata.
In the Fields of Remembrance project, 8000 white crosses were placed in schools nationwide, with Ngati Toa School starting the ball rolling.
Parata’s father, husband and brother were part of the New Zealand Defence Force and she said it was valuable for children to hear stories of the past.
