Judges praise paper’s approach
For the third successive year, Kapi-Mana News has been named as one of the leading community newspapers in New Zealand.
We won the Canon award in 2013 and have been a finalist for the past two years.
Judges Jim Eagles and Mike Fletcher said that at a time when traditional news media was under pressure, it was great to see there were still plenty of community newspapers that served their readers with skill, enthusiasm and flair.
They said of Kapi-Mana News: ‘‘It covers its catchments very well – not only with consistently good stories, but also thoughtful editorial comment and a rich harvest of readers’ letters, and deserves to be acknowledged.’’
There are about 200 community newspapers in New Zealand.
The 2015 winner, announced on May 22, was Mountain Scene of Queenstown.
