Woman’s second drink driving charge
A Wellington woman was disqualified from driving after she was convicted of drink driving for a second time.
Hema Yasvant Patel was stopped by police while driving in Champion St, Cannons Creek, on April 5.
The stop was part of a routine check and a breath screening test identified that Patel was driving with a reading of 583 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit is 250.
At the time of the offence, the 26-year-old said she had had two or three glasses of wine.
Judge John Walker said that previous assessments had indicated that alcohol was a major issue for her. She appeared in Porirua District Court last Tuesday.
She was ordered to complete nine months’ supervision and attend drug and alcohol counselling. She was also disqualified from driving for eight months.
