Better wi-fi on the way for CBD
Public wi-fi will be up and running in Porirua’s city centre before summer, Porirua City Council confirmed recently.
An economic development quarterly report to Te Komiti on May 21 said the provision for enhanced public wi- fi was agreed to by the council in April and the laying of fibre- optic cable and installation of wireless access points is under way.
The work is expected to take four months and another two months will be needed for testing.
Other elements of the report included the council developing a business and investment attraction programme to coincide with upcoming changes to Cobham Court; an entrepreneurial training course to be run in Porirua in conjunction with Porirua Chamber of Commerce and Pacific Business Trust; and the council working with the Government to improve broadband availability in eastern Porirua and Titahi Bay.
The report also noted that Porirua unemployment was 7.1 per cent, its lowest level for five years.
