Coastguard brought in for pick-up
Mana Coastguard rescued a man from Porirua harbour on Queen’s Birthday Monday after his safety while swimming was questioned.
For more than an hour, the 22-year-old man continued to swim and wade over sandbanks after entering the harbour from the Paremata side.
The Wellington Westpac Helicopter and the coastguard was called in to locate the man and bring him to safety.
The man was picked out of the water by the coastguard and taken back to the coastguard base, where he was checked by ambulance staff.
He was referred to hospital services.
