Netballer selected for Central

Kapi-Mana News - - SPORT -

Porirua netballer Whitney Souness will be a key member of the Central Zone under- 23 squad, named last week.

Souness was in the Pulse squad for the ANZ Championship, and got a small amount of game time.

The 19-year-old midcourter is seen by Central Zone coach Yvette McCausland-Durie as a vital part of her side, which has a balance of youth and experience.

The 12-strong squad will have several training sessions and warm-up games before they take on the country’s best in Auckland from July 6 till 8.

Meanwhile, Aotea College golfer Daniel Hillier was recognised for his national amateur title in April – the youngest ever, at 16, to win the crown – by being named emerging sportsman of the year at the Wellington Sportsperson of the Year Awards last week. It was a double win in the emerging category for golf, because fellow Manor Park player Julianne Alvarez won emerging sportswoman title.

Whitney Souness will play for Central Zone’s under-23 side.
