Upgrades to make roads safer

Whitford Brown Ave is to get $4 million worth of upgrades, and a section of Eskdale Rd that so far has existed only on planners’ maps is to be built.

The roading decisions were made at Porirua City Council’s long-term plan deliberations on June 4.

Because Whitford Brown Ave is a major east-west connector for the city, and will be more so once Transmission Gully and the link roads into Porirua are built, investment was needed, a council report concluded.

Aside from a right-hand turn into Fjord Place, which will be built in the next 12 months, intersection improvements will start in about three years’ time – upgrades to Papakowhai Rd ($2m) in 2018/19, Okowai Rd ($1.1m) and the Eskdale paper road ($900,000) in 2019/20.
