Armed re­sponse to phone threat

Armed po­lice de­scended on the Work and In­come of­fice in Porirua af­ter staff were threat­ened last Tues­day.

Se­nior Sergeant Simon King of the Welling­ton Dis­trict Com­mand Cen­tre said the threat was made by phone about 3.40pm.

Armed po­lice re­sponded

to se­cure the of­fice in Lyd­ney Place.

The al­leged threat was made dur­ing a phone con­ver­sa­tion be­tween Work and In­come staff and a mem­ber of the public, King said.

The per­son who made the phone call was iden­ti­fied and lo­cated at an ad­dress in Porirua.

Po­lice were in­ves­ti­gat­ing the cir­cum­stances of the phone con­ver­sa­tion to de­ter­mine whether a crim­i­nal of­fence had oc­curred.

Threats to Work and In­come staff were taken ex­tremely se­ri­ously and peo­ple who made such threats could ex­pect to be pros­e­cuted, King said.
