Armed response to phone threat
Armed police descended on the Work and Income office in Porirua after staff were threatened last Tuesday.
Senior Sergeant Simon King of the Wellington District Command Centre said the threat was made by phone about 3.40pm.
Armed police responded
to secure the office in Lydney Place.
The alleged threat was made during a phone conversation between Work and Income staff and a member of the public, King said.
The person who made the phone call was identified and located at an address in Porirua.
Police were investigating the circumstances of the phone conversation to determine whether a criminal offence had occurred.
Threats to Work and Income staff were taken extremely seriously and people who made such threats could expect to be prosecuted, King said.
