Wilde loses council leadership role
Fran Wilde has been rolled as chairwoman of Wellington Regional Council.
Wilde was a strong supporter of the Wellington super-city proposal that was abandoned last week. She said it was appropriate for the council to have leadership not so strongly identified with the rejected proposal.
Wilde will step down at the end of the month, but remain a councillor.
Hutt City regional councillor Prue Lamason led the rebellion, drafting a letter calling for Wilde’s resignation last Friday. It is understood nine councillors signed the letter.
Council deputy chairwoman Barbara Donaldson confirmed the resignation call. ‘‘We rolled Fran,’’ she said.
