I’d like to congratulate Ashe Tuteru on stepping up to be student editor of Bishop Viard College’s magazine (June 9).
What a great story of a talented teen who is ready to make her mark on the world.
In 1986 I was the editor of the Viard College yearbook.
We were, in those days, producing a yearbook with a team of typists.
If there was a spelling error we would have to retype the page! (OK, now I feel very old.) Ashe, if journalism feels right for you (writing can and will be a real passion which stays with you throughout your life), then go for it!
To this day I regret not following my heart into journalism.
In 1986 a well-meaning careers adviser ‘‘advised’’ me that there was more potential in the world of business (ahem, not if your heart and your head is elsewhere). All the best to you Ashe. You have a bright future ahead of you.
New Zealand needs more in the way of quality writers and journalists.
