Dancer steps out

Kapi-Mana News - - FLASHBACK -

Hone Kouka has moved out of his comfort zone for his own contribution to the festival, the beautiful ones, a dance- drama collaboration with choreographer Dolina Wehipeihana.

‘‘I call myself a frustrated choreographer, basically. I see theatre as sculpture in space, so it makes sense for me to work with dancers in some capacity. Secondly I wanted to pick up this thing called theatre and just flip it – movement, hip- hop, dancers.’’

He wanted a concert format, but as a playwright he understood the need for a strong narrative to run through it.

However, as the work has evolved, he wasn’t at all sure where it was headed or even what it was.
