Awards mark 50th year
Porirua gets set to celebrate its favourite people
If you know someone who has made a positive difference to Porirua City, you can nominate them for a new award.
Mayor Nick Leggett said the one-off awards were being made to mark Porirua’s 50th birthday.
‘‘The 50 Years Awards will celebrate the contribution 50 living people have made, and continue to make, to the development of Porirua as a city,’’ Leggett said.
‘‘The awards are for unsung heroes who quietly get on with making a difference in Porirua and people who are well-known in the city, the region, nationally and internationally for what they have achieved.’’
Winners receive a medal designed around the Porirua 50th logo.
The awards will be judged by Leggett, deputy-mayor ‘Ana Coffey, city councillor Litea Ah Hoi, former Porirua mayors John Burke and Jenny Brash, and Ngati Toa Rangatira Kaumatua Taku Parai.
For information, phone 237-5089 or go to 50thawards @pcc.govt.nz.
Nomination forms can be picked up from the council’s front counter in Cobham Court, Porirua libraries, the i-site and Te Rauparaha Arena.
Nominations close on July 31.
