Church embraces 75 years’ worship
St Theresa’s Church in Plimmerton celebrated its 75th jubilee over Queen’s Birthday Weekend.
There was a meet and greet evening in the parish hall on Friday evening, hosted by a group of parents with children at St Theresa’s School.
On Saturday those attending drove around the area to some of the former mass centres.
St Mark’s Anglican Church was used ecumenically – quite revolutionary for that day.
St Joseph’s Church
in Pauatahanui, where many of the original family members of parishioners are buried, was also a stop-off point.
There was a remembrance mass on Saturday evening and then a dance was held at Bishop Viard College.
On Sunday, Cardinal John Dew celebrated the jubilee mass with Fr Bill Warwick.
Many of the school pupils participated with a powhiri, singing and even a haka. The weekend ended with a lunch attended by nearly 300 people.
