Church em­braces 75 years’ wor­ship

St Theresa’s Church in Plim­mer­ton cel­e­brated its 75th ju­bilee over Queen’s Birth­day Week­end.

There was a meet and greet evening in the parish hall on Fri­day evening, hosted by a group of par­ents with chil­dren at St Theresa’s School.

On Satur­day those at­tend­ing drove around the area to some of the for­mer mass cen­tres.

St Mark’s Angli­can Church was used ec­u­meni­cally – quite rev­o­lu­tion­ary for that day.

St Joseph’s Church

in Pau­ata­hanui, where many of the orig­i­nal fam­ily mem­bers of parish­ioners are buried, was also a stop-off point.

There was a re­mem­brance mass on Satur­day evening and then a dance was held at Bishop Viard Col­lege.

On Sun­day, Cardinal John Dew cel­e­brated the ju­bilee mass with Fr Bill War­wick.

Many of the school pupils par­tic­i­pated with a powhiri, singing and even a haka. The week­end ended with a lunch at­tended by nearly 300 peo­ple.
