Spring in their step
Sixteen young dancers from Kerry School of Irish Dancing have hit the international stage and returned triumphant.
Mila and Charlie Pratt, Olivia and Jess Ludgate, Samantha Tait, Shannon Hullett, Joahanna Scott- Rodriguez, Alex Crampton, Kira Tomilison, and Jeremy Burrell placed respectably in their dancing divisions at the Australian International Oireachtas on the Gold Coast in May.
Most of the young dancers finished in the top 10, and Shannon Hullett was 20th and Joahanna Scott-Rodriguez 22nd.
Milla and Charlie Pratt, Alex Crampton, and Kira Tomilison said it was exciting to be part of an international competition and that they were proud of how they performed.
Mother and daughter duo Sharon and Kristina Craig, who run the school, said the dancers came away with really good results.
‘‘We placed very high as there were about 40 other dancers in each age group.
‘‘It was a really good effort and shows that we’re getting better,’’ Kristina Craig said.
‘‘ For many of them it was their first time overseas. They were all really excited and we’re really proud with how they went.’’
Each dancer took part in two solo performances and if they were recalled by judges, performed again.
Kerry School of Irish Dancing are working towards a competition in Christchurch next month, as well as the New Zealand Irish dancing championship in October.
