Budding architect earns scholarship
Former Tawa College student Tyler Harlen received a $ 6000 Freemasons university scholarship this month.
Harlen is studying for a bachelor of architectural studies at Victoria University and hopes to do his masters next year.
As a volunteer in the faculty of architecture and design’s Te Ropu Awhina, Harlen helps young Maori and Pacific students who are keen to pursue architecture and design careers. His Niuean heritage led to him becoming part of Te Ropu Awhina’s design team for an aged care facility as an addition to the hospital in Niue.
Celebrating 125 years in New Zealand, Freemasons gave $192,000 in scholarships to 28 of the country’s A grade university students, including Harlen, at a ceremony held inside the Christchurch Transitional Cathedral on June 13.
