Night market popular
The Porirua Chamber of Commerce is pleased with how a pop-up night market focused on food trucks went last Thursday.
The market in Cobham Court has been up in the air since the Titahi Bay Lions moved its traditional Saturday market to Waitangirua Mall in May.
Last year the council said it wanted to have a ‘‘refreshed’’ market in Cobham Court, but so far nothing has been finalised and there were few groups lobbying to replace the Lions market there.
Aleisha Rouse, from the chamber, said the night market was a huge success and that the atmosphere was ‘‘awesome’’.
‘‘Hundreds of people came down and the trucks sold out of food,’’ she said.
‘‘It was great to see everyone down there, even though it was cold.’’
Rouse said the chamber would love to do it again.
‘‘We’re possibly looking at a monthly market for now, and might increase it over summer.’’
Wendy Walker, the Porirua City Council’s general manager of strategy and planning, said all the feedback was that the night market was great.
‘‘We regard it as a roaring success,’’ she said. ‘‘Making it a regular thing would be excellent. I We’re keen on anything that brings people to Cobham Court and adds to the vibrancy there.’’
Porirua had a taste of what a night market in Cobham Court could look like on Thursday night last week.
