After-hours service poor

Kapi-Mana News - - OPINION -

My 21-month-old daughter became very ill with a virus on June 22 (a Sunday night) and was struggling to breathe, so I rang Healthline to get some advice.

I was instructed to go to the after-hours medical clinic to see a doctor.

I live in Whitby and the afterhours service at Kenepuru Hospital was shut and had no doctors. We had to drive almost an hour into Newtown, only to find the Wellington after-hours was also closed (by then it was after midnight).

We then went to Wellington A and E and were told there was a two-hour wait to see a doctor.

I find the after-hours health services in Porirua absolutely unacceptable and wonder why Porirua residents shouldn’t have decent access to after-hours health services.

The Capital & Coast District Health Board needs a reality check.
