Cycle path funds
Porirua is to get a slice of the $333 million the Government is spending on 41 cycleways around the country.
The proposed harbourside Onepoto-Wineera shared pathway is to receive $830,000 in government funding, with $280,000 coming from the Urban Cycleways Fund, $ 270,000 from the National Land Transport Fund, and $280,000 from local government.
The 1.45-kilometre path from Titahi Bay to the Porirua CBD will connect to existing walking and cycling facilities in Wineera Drive and will help to complete the cycling network in the area.
Porirua City Council has $175,000 set aside for the project and asset management and operations general manager Peter Bailey said it was a great initiative that had enabled Porirua to provide an enhanced active pathway in the city.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2016 and should be completed by mid-2017.
Stride N’ Ride on the Kapiti Coast also gets funding.
