FROM THE EDITOR
Janie Walker, who writes our popular Boat People column, spent half of this year sailing around the Pacific, dropping in on various islands.
The intrepid traveller sent us back regular reports and her columns invariably made for good reading – Janie is observant, and has a kind heart and a feel for the underdog.
She was in a sense a supertourist, sometimes stopping at islands for weeks and trying to get to know the local communities in some depth.
She is also no Peter Blake, as she constantly stressed, relying heavily on her partner Dean, who provided the sailing expertise.
Janie has returned to Porirua, full of memories, lessons learned, ambition and hopes. It was quite an undertaking she embarked on, and dropping anchor at Mana Marina must have been both a relief and something of an anticlimax.
Turn to P24 for her latest column and read about her thoughts on her epic journey and what she is planning next.
