Santa Claus might live near the North Pole, but even he was aware Porirua turned 50 in 2015. ‘‘I deliver a lot of presents to Porirua, because my ‘nice’ list there is always much longer than my ‘naughty’ list,’’ he told Kapi-Mana News. ‘‘I’ve always had a special place in my heart for this wonderful city, and was very pleased to hear it had reached such a special milestone. ‘‘I wasn’t able to attend the 50th celebration dinner, because October is pretty busy for me and my elves, but I was there in spirit and offer my heartiest congratulations.’’ Santa did say he had heard about the wonderful exhibitions at Pataka, and was impressed to see how far the city had come in 50 years. Through his many community connections in Porirua, Santa was able to get hold of some Porirua 50th memorabilia, including a watch, which he will use as his official timepiece as he races around the world delivering presents on Christmas Eve.
