Kapi-Mana News - - CONVERSATIONS - LIBBY DRUMMOND Ascot Park

I agree with Michelle Brown (Dec 8). The alleyways between the streets and the walkways in Ascot Park are a disgrace.

A few years ago, the city council extended Bothamley Walkway from Warspite Ave to Ascot Park. In places, the walkway is not half the width it used to be because nature has been allowed to take over.

The walkways between the streets are full of weeds. The community cleaned most of them for the 50th anniversary of our city in October, but since then, nature has again taken hold.

I have learned that Fulton Hogan lost the contract for this work.

Whoever has the contract now either didn’t include the walkways in the contract or is ripping off ratepayers.

Is the so-called work specified in the contract ever inspected? Surely the ratepayers are entitled to a better service in the communities and not just in the city centre. Please can we have some work done outside this area so the residents can take pride in their surroundings.
