FLAG DESIGN

Kapi-Mana News - - CONVERSATIONS - B DOORNEKAMP-WELLMAN Ngaio

I didn’t like any of the proposed designs for the New Zealand flag. They were all either too conservative or not colourful or beautiful. Too much black, too much like the past.

If my one vote could change the flag I would make the design a blue background like the sky, and green – with a punga (tree fern).

Perhaps a small part could be in brown – a spiral (Maori design) as in a punga.

Brilliant designs can be found in nature.

Also, there is such a thing as timing things well. When the Queen dies would be an appropriate time to change the flag.
