Ron’s swift to claim his new wheels
A Porirua man has had a great start to 2016 after scoring himself a new car.
Ron Quigg was quick to pick up the keys to his blue Suzuki Swift Plus from Mexted Motors in Tawa last Friday.
He said he couldn’t believe it when he found out he had won.
He was one of five New Zealanders who won a car as part of a nationwide promotion run by Fairfax.
Quigg, who lives in Waitangirua, said he had never won anything substantial before, with his biggest ever win being a grocery raffle years ago.
‘‘It’s a wonderful way to start the year,’’ he said.
‘‘It will be much easier to drive and will be great for when I go up to Hamilton for my old primary school’s centenary in September.
‘‘The only thing is I’m used to a manual. So my sister-in-law had to drive it back to Porirua and from there I went somewhere quiet to practise driving without a clutch.’’
By last Friday afternoon, Quigg had spent time driving around getting to grips with his new car, and had also had a good read of the manual.
Quigg’s previous car was a Toyota Yaris that had just clocked up 100,000km.
He said that car would be going to his sister-in-law.
‘‘To go from a car with 100,000km on the clock to a new one is amazing.’’
Though Quigg is more than happy with his new ride, he said his dream car would be a Ferrari or a Ford Model T.
‘‘But that will have to wait until I win the Lotto.’’
Mexted Motors sales consultant Sam McDowell said he was pleased the car was going to another happy customer.
