Paremata roundabout still a problem
Caroline Collins is still concerned about the Paremata roundabout a year after NZ Transport Agency said it would look into the problems there.
The Whitby resident has to battle her way across the heavily congested roundabout each evening and is beginning to wonder if anything will ever be done.
Last year Collins said she had been advised by NZ Transport Agency the ultimate solution was to wait for Trans- mission Gully to be completed in 2020.
However, she said she would like to be able to pull out on to the roundabout now without feeling she was taking her life in her hands.
‘‘My goal is to go to work and come home safely,’’ she said.
The heavy flow of traffic heading north on State Highway 1 made it dangerous for drivers to pull out of the Paremata car park, she said.
Collins has been appealing to the transport agency for a solution for more than two years. She said so far nothing has been done.
She said the solution could include changing the location of the car park entrance and/or placing part or fulltime traffic signals at the roundabout.
‘‘My expectation is for NZTA to follow through with their promise to review the safety of the roundabout and make their findings public so people can see what they plan to do, if anything.’’
NZ Transport Agency did not reply to our requests for comment.
