Charity golf tournament at Judgeford
Mana Lions held their annual charity golf tournament at Judgeford on March 18.
Golfers of all ranges of ability gathered to support Ronald McDonald House.
Event organiser Dave Black said it was the 11th time the Lions had run the event.
‘‘We were thrilled with the response from our sponsors and the teams that came out to play,’’ he said.
‘‘Players and sponsors were very generous in recognition of a worthy cause.’’
Eighty players turned up to support a worthwhile cause. There were prizes on offer, but that was not really the major focus of those competing, Black said.
‘‘There were some great shots, there were some interesting shots, and a few people required more shots than they would have liked, but there was a lot of laughter, on the course and especially at the 19th.’’
Nikki Thompson from Ronald McDonald House in Newtown thanked players and sponsors and praised Mana Lions, who have raised about $35,000 over seven tournaments.
John Coey, the president of Mana Lions, said the golf event was a highlight on the Lions’ calendar, and noted that many players took a day off work to be part of it.
