Children’s author to share tips
Children’s picture book author Juliette MacIver will speak at a gathering of children’s writers and illustrators in Kapiti next week.
The Titahi Bay resident has written 12 picture books, including the popular Marmaduke Duck and the Marmalade Jam, published in 2010, and its sequel. Both were illustrated by Sarah Davis.
Three of her books have won the Storylines Notable Book Award.
The Kapiti Writers’ Group Children’s is hosting MacIver as part of a drive to expand membership and provide a network for local writers and illustrators of work for children.
Writers’ group spokeswoman Pam Kessler said MacIver would talk about how she became a successful children’s writer and share tips about getting published.
‘‘We are excited to have her as our guest speaker and know she will inspire established writers as well as budding authors and illustrators,’’ Kessler said.
The group, established five years ago, aims to promote children’s literature through community projects.
It has published two anthologies, featuring the work of local writers and children, and has run writing workshops and competitions. Juliette MacIver talk, Kapiti Community Centre, 15 Ngahina St, Paraparaumu, Thursday, April 14, 7pm, RSVP to Anne Ingram, 902 0985.
