Kevin Clark in jazz treat
Popular vocalist Fran Barton and Plimmerton pianist/composer/ arranger Kevin Clark and his group will present an evening of jazz at Mana Little Theatre on Saturday.
Clark said most jazz standards were from Broadway shows from the 1930s and 40s – music by Cole Porter, Gershwin and others – but that modern composers wrote equally good material that was more relevant to present times.
The title of Saturday’s concert is Setting the New Standards, with jazz-flavoured interpretations of well-known modern popular songs by Sting, Billy Joel, Elton John, Carole King, Dave Frishberg, Lennon and McCartney, Stevie Wonder, and others.
It promises to be an entertaining evening.
Barton and Clark have been working together since the early 1970s in television, radio, live performances at national festivals, studio recordings (they have produced six albums), restaurants, performance venues and private, diplomatic and corporate functions.
Also in the group are noted Wellington musicians Rowan Clark on bass and Lance Philip on drums.
