Our Flashback feature continues to be one of the most popular pages in our paper. This week’s Flashback, on page 20, has already provoked a lot of discussion and community involvement since the photo was posted on our Facebook page last week.

The photo showed a group of youngsters holding what appeared to be a volleyball. We knew nothing more. But, as is the way of things, it didn’t take long for those in the photo to be identified – it was the Porirua Seventh-Day Adventist Church team that attended the church’s nationals. Not only did they attend, but they won their national title in 1996 and 1997.

The team members have scattered since those days. In fact, quite a few of them live in Australia.

But they retain vivid memories of their time in Porirua – ‘‘we’re all still P-town boys,’’ one told us – as you’ll see when you read the heartwarming story.
