Tawa’s helpers thanked

Tawa res­i­dents again have the op­por­tu­nity to pub­licly thank those they be­lieve have helped to im­prove their com­mu­nity.

The Tawa Com­mu­nity Civic Awards have been held by the com­mu­nity board ev­ery se­cond year since 2006.

Welling­ton City coun­cil­lor and Tawa Com­mu­nity Board mem­ber Mal­colm Spar­row said the awards were an im­por­tant way of thank­ing those who are not of­ten recog­nised for the im­por­tant work they do for the com­mu­nity.

‘‘Any com­mu­nity is very de­pen­dent on the part that vol­un­teers play,’’ he said.
