Loo upgrade costs $340,000

Porirua City Council has spent $340,000 on a bathroom upgrade at Pataka.

Figures released to Kapi-Mana News show the council spent the money on an upgrade that finished in February.

Property manager Greg Patience said the one-off project was necessary because the existing facilities had reached the end of their life cycle.

‘‘These facilities are heavily used in an important public location,’’ he said.

‘‘We have provided modern, clean and totally serviceable finishes with a nice entry – no doors.

‘‘We used Maximum tiles on all wall finishes, only the second time this has been done in New Zealand and the first time in Wellington.

‘‘Maximum is an extremely strong and resilient product which will reduce our operational costs.’’

He said accessible facilities were part of the existing bathroom, but were now in a more user-friendly position, with better access.

In addition to the bathroom upgrade, a parenting room had also been built for Pataka visitors.
