Ti­tahi Bay Surf Life Sav­ing Club mem­bers have been nom­i­nated for re­gional awards.

Keely Saun­ders (un­der-19 life­guard) and Jeff Chap­man (life­guard) have been put for­ward for the 2016 Cap­i­tal Coast Awards of Ex­cel­lence, along with Marty McDow­ell (sportsper­son of the year).

The suc­cess­ful Ti­tahi Bay un­der23 women’s surf boat crew will be hard to beat in the sports team cat­e­gory.

The club could also hold the res- cue of the year award af­ter Ally Jones’ self­less act at Ohope Beach in March.

Rac­ing in the un­der-16 di­a­mond race of the New Zealand Surf Life- Sav­ing Cham­pi­onships, Alexan­dra stopped mid-race to help a fel­low com­peti­tor who was cry­ing and tak­ing on water.

Af­ter a res­cue crew pulled the girl out of the water, Ally went on to fin­ish the race.

The awards night will be held this Satur­day at the Plim­mer­ton Boat­ing Club. Win­ners from the clubs – stretch­ing from Palmer­ston North to Rivers­dale, Levin to Lyall Bay – will go on to the na­tional awards in Septem­ber.
