Perkins to kick off Pataka series with bluegrass trio
The annual Friends of Pataka winter music series begins this year with a performance by The Jim Perkins Trio.
The trio is led by Jim Perkins, a Whitireia tutor who will play acoustic guitar, accompanied by Roni Perkins on mandolin and voice and Garrett Evans on Dobro.
The material they have selected is a range of songs that Jim Perkins has picked up on his journey of selfdiscovery into the genre of Bluegrass music. Their sound can be summed up as Americana and focuses mainly on the poetic aspect for this concert.
The concert will take place on Sunday, June 12, in the Helen Smith Community Room at Pataka, 2pm till 3pm.
Following this concert The Nikau Ensemble will be next up. They will perform on June 26 at the same venue and same time.
On July 3, The Glamaphones, a mixed voice choir, will sing.
The final artists in the winter series will come from the New Zealand School of Music.
