Perkins to kick off Pataka se­ries with blue­grass trio

The an­nual Friends of Pataka win­ter mu­sic se­ries be­gins this year with a per­for­mance by The Jim Perkins Trio.

The trio is led by Jim Perkins, a Whi­tireia tu­tor who will play acous­tic gui­tar, ac­com­pa­nied by Roni Perkins on man­dolin and voice and Gar­rett Evans on Do­bro.

The ma­te­rial they have se­lected is a range of songs that Jim Perkins has picked up on his jour­ney of self­dis­cov­ery into the genre of Blue­grass mu­sic. Their sound can be summed up as Amer­i­cana and fo­cuses mainly on the po­etic as­pect for this con­cert.

The con­cert will take place on Sun­day, June 12, in the He­len Smith Com­mu­nity Room at Pataka, 2pm till 3pm.

Fol­low­ing this con­cert The Nikau En­sem­ble will be next up. They will per­form on June 26 at the same venue and same time.

On July 3, The Glama­phones, a mixed voice choir, will sing.

The fi­nal artists in the win­ter se­ries will come from the New Zealand School of Mu­sic.

The Jim Perkins Trio will kick off Pataka’s win­ter mu­sic se­ries.
