Tawa takes sec­ond Ju­bilee Cup loss

Tawa have a lot of work to make the Ju­bilee Cup semi-fi­nals af­ter two losses to start Welling­ton club rugby’s pre­mier com­pe­ti­tion.

An even bat­tle with Poneke at Kil­birnie Park on Satur­day was won 24-15 by the home side, af­ter they were the bet­ter team in the fi­nal quar­ter.

It was 8-5 to Tawa at half­time, thanks to a Ke­mara HauitiPara­para try and a Ran­dall Bishop penalty. Hemi Fer­ma­nis scored in the sec­ond spell, but two Poneke tries gave them the lead, which they never re­lin­quished.

The loss has Tawa bot­tom of the Ju­bilee Cup stand­ings af­ter two games.

In the Hard­ham Cup, North­ern United thrashed Old BoysUniver­sity’s sec­ond team 59-0 and Pare­mata Plimmerton were well­beaten 62-3 by Hutt Old Boys Marist.

In Cen­tral League foot­ball, Western Sub­urbs were beaten 3-2 by Mi­ra­mar af­ter con­ced­ing a goal in sec­ond half ex­tra time. The loss drops them to fifth, six points adrift of lead­ers Napier City Rovers.

In Welling­ton pre­mier rugby league, Rand­wick beat St Ge­orge Dragons 44-20 at Can­nons Creek Park.

In Kapi Mana pre­mier net­ball, Norths 1 beat Aotea Col­lege 54-25, Te Tai Timu 1 thrashed their sec­ond team 83-29 and KBJ 1 won by de­fault over Rockz 1.
