The sun shone for Plimmerton Croquet Club members as they celebrated 90 years as a club on September 3.

There was twice the reason to celebrate as the new fifth lawn was officially opened, after months of planning, earthworks, lawn laying, spraying and mowing to get the surface pristine.

More than 50 players, including some guests from other clubs from around the region, enjoyed modified games that were a combination of both association and golf croquet codes.

Chocolate bars were the order of the day for scoring, and occasional non-scoring, on the green.

After lunch, the 90th celebration cake, created by Sue Dewsnap, was cut by club patron John Burke.

Plimmerton Club is now ready to take on all competitors over the summer, publicity officer Alison Davies said.
